Okay, so you’re ready to tackle learning an instrument. You’ve got the instrument, you have your schedule of when you’re available to take lessons. You’re here, reading this blogpost, because you’re interested in our school, so you think you have a place in mind that you want to go for your lessons. You’re excited and nervous but ready. But how do you know which teacher to go with, when there are so many options?
It’s daunting. There are so many teachers out there in the world! Many teach private one-on-one music lessons, some teach group classes, and some teach only in-home or online. Here, our instructors all work with you one-on-one, but they all have different personalities and teaching styles. How can you be sure a certain teacher is the right fit?
At our school, we offer one free trial lesson for each prospective student! Our trial lessons are 30 minutes and function like a normal lesson. Our office staff can assist you in picking the right instructor from the get-go while you’re on the phone booking a free trial lesson! They know our teachers extremely well, and it’s important that we make the best matches we can.
Take an imaginary student, Jimmy. Jimmy’s six years old, an absolute beginner, and wants to play piano. He’s a bit shy and nervous around adults. What teacher would suit him best? Our staff would recommend a music teacher who’s excellent at working with young children! Someone friendly and outgoing, but most importantly, patient.
Take another imaginary student, George. George is sixty years old, and he used to play the guitar back in high school. He wants to refine the skills he once had. He’s relaxed and laid-back and likes good conversation. For George, our staff would recommend someone who works super well with teenagers and older students. Someone down-to-earth, funny and witty, and like all of our teachers, patient with the learning process.
What happens if a trial doesn’t go as well as you expect? We always follow up with our trial lessons a day or two after, to ensure everything went smoothly. Of course, there will be trials that weren’t perfect matches, for any number of reasons! In that case, we believe in giving you another shot, another trial, with a different instructor. We want to make sure that you are able to take lessons with the teacher that best suits you!
